LGF “private” thread and Does Irish Rose sing like this?

Posted by avideditor on October 6, 2009

It seems here attack on Zombie which is now removed caused Zombie to be banned from the probable junkie Charles Johnsons website. Here is the first part of the private thread.  To all those sickos out there still at LGF. Get out. Btw no comments there are private CJ is a lair, probably a junky, and a terrible web designer who is breaking the TOS of Paypal by using the info to expose people.

Here is the transcript of there “private” thread. It is pure insanity but funny IMHO. I in no way endorse  this trash.

Looks like Rachel Maddow has been reading LGF: Oct. 4: Ambassador Susan Rice, roundtable – Meet the Press- msnbc.com.

MS. MADDOW: I, I do think that there’s a little bit of reckoning that needs to happen on the right for Sarah Palin’s success. I mean, she was the vice presidential nominee, she is going to sell a kazillion books and she is the biggest brand name in Republican politics still right now. And she’s chose–the person who’s writing her book, her last–the last person who she co-authored a book with was called “Donkey Cons” and it was co-authored with a guy who’s widely believed to be and I believe him to be a white supremacist. So she’s chosen Lynn Vincent, who’s written a book with a white supremacist, to write her book, and she’s the biggest name in Republican politics.

MR. MURPHY: Oh, but, Rachel…

MS. MADDOW: And you can dismiss her and say she’s not going to be the nominee, but I do think the right needs to sort of answer for what’s happened to conservatism.

MR. MURPHY: But let me just say, I am a well-documented nonfan of Sarah Palin, at least as a national politician. I don’t know her personally. But that’s guilt by association stuff. That’s the cable stuff. That’s the problem.

MS. MADDOW: But why would you–you can pick anybody to be your ghostwriter.

MR. MURPHY: Sarah Palin’s a lot of things, but she’s not a white supremacist. And…

MS. MADDOW: You could–no, I don’t think she is. But when you can pick anybody, why would she pick somebody who’s associated with the League of the South, who said that Americans are revolted by the idea of having a black sister-in-law. I mean, she–this is who she picked to write her book.

MR. MURPHY: Yeah, but there’s…

MS. MADDOW: Why do you do that?

MR. MURPHY: That’s sort of guilt by association stuff, which I don’t know and it can–I–check it out.

MS. MADDOW: It’s guilt by choice. It’s guilt by choice.

GREGORY: OK.

MR. MURPHY: It is, is so, so not important to the central questions in the country right now. But that’s what cable TV has become, so I…

MS. MADDOW: Sarah Palin’s popularity is a central question in the Republican Party right now.

She even echoes my main point in the post I put up: that Palin could have chosen anyone to write this book, but chose an extreme religious right author who has collaborated with a white supremacist.

The earlier discussion on how creationists constantly feel the need to reassure themselves that their peculiarly refracted worldview has not been negated by advances in neo-Darwinism reminded me of certain aspects of an old sci-fi story written by a British astronomer, Sir Fred Hoyle. Hoyle became well known for his work with Thomas Gold and Hermann Bondi on the steady-state theory of the universe, a rival to the big-bang theory, but now supported by only a small number of scientists. He made a point of taking on controversial scientific positions, and I remember hearing a lecture from him about quasars and why they were, in his opinion, objects inside our own galaxy and not at cosmological distances.

One of his stories is The Black Cloud, describing an encounter between humanity and a super-intelligent extra-terrestrial life form. During the encounter, the alien communicates with the earth and agrees to transfer some of its knowledge to a human through an elaborate array of lights to encode messages with high information content. The first human dies shortly after exposure and the second human to go through the process stays alive long enough to reveal why the first human died. The problem was that suddenly, a huge amount of unfamiliar and contradictory (that is to a human world view) information was put into his head, side by side with his familiar world view. Try as he might, he kept running into contradictions and the resulting brain storms quite literally killed him, even though he was following the rule that when the new information contradicted the old, he should reject the old. The difference between this hapless individual and creationists is that he was willing to accept the new ideas which had to be right. The creationists take the mentally more relaxing route of not listening to anything that contradicts them, thereby avoiding any brain storms.

It must have lasted for a millisecond (or they were all on the ground).

All of these prop planes will easily exceed the F-16’s minimum control speed of about 130mph.
Maximum speeds (from Bill Gunston’s Warplanes of the Second World War):
Spitfire IX (version shown) 409 mph (about 330 at low level)
B-24 (most versions) 280 mph (about 220 at low level)
Dakota (C-47) 230 mph (not much lower at low altitude)

Aircraft like the B-24 and Spitfire achieved higher speeds at high altitude because their highly supercharged engines allowed them to maintain near sea-level power at high altitudes while taking advantage of the lower drag inherent in the lower air density. The C-47’s engines (otherwise the same as the B-24’s) were not so highly supercharged and did not benefit so much from high altitude.

On the subject of the last thread, I’d like to raise a point that rankles every time I hear it.

“I’ve got nothing against faith or believers – it’s organized religion I can’t stand.”

Well, how should faith and believers exist in the world – in a vacuum?

Yeah, some might like that.

How does science get “done”? How about economics? Engineering?

“I’ve got nothing against cars or drivers – it’s assembly-line factories I can’t abide.”

I know there are people who think all of the above except religion have their uses, and therefore it should get along without infrastructure, if it has to exist at all, damn it.

Some people actually feel that way about cars, though. The Amish, for example. Or some bikers I’ve met.

Whatevs.

RS McCain just posted about the Rachel Maddow clip. He says Maddow got her facts wrong … but he doesn’t bother to say exactly HOW she got her facts wrong.

Quote:

Well, isn’t that convenient.

In his newest post RSM links to an another blog called Saberpoint. Saberpoint’s post is called: “Is Rachel Maddow a Crack Whore? Some Say She Is, and I Believe She Is.” It’s a bunch of verbal diarrhea.

I’ve posted this snip before from RSM’s blog..

The Sarah Palin autobiography will be go on sale before Thanksgiving. Hey, when we’re doing with this Kentucky trip, how about y’all sending me to Anchorage. Lynn Vincent tells me that Chuck Heath is a super-cool guy. Team Palin won’t let me talk to Sarah, but I’d really like to meet Chuck.

I wonder if anyone has asked “Team Palin” why they won’t let RSM interview Sarah and I wonder what the answer would be.

Thanks! For some odd reason, I’d been picturing the Sopwith Camel in the group, too. Doh!

Yep. At an alleged 115 mph maximum, the Camel would have been left far behind, if not blown right out of the sky by all the turbulence. It is hard to believe today that teenagers routinely fought a war in these contraptions at 20,000 feet, without oxygen or parachutes.

Question for you, Charles… what’s your personal take on this? Do you believe that she subscribes to this ideology, or is she simply a poor judge of character? A case of bad vetting, perhaps?

But faith is an individual choice. It is only when people feel the need to come together to define what does not constitute their faith that organized religion arises.

The creation of organized belief systems by definition requires that some beliefs are designated as orthodox and some get designated as heresy.

The problem is that most organized religions can’t leave well enough alone and define things only for themselves, but feel the need to impose those beliefs on other people who aren’t in the group. This is where religion and politics start to merge.

The religious right feels oppressed precisely because they aren’t being allowed to turn this country into a theocracy. God help us if they do.

On Sarah Palin.

Never has so much been written about a political figure that has accomplished so little in her political career. Her only defining moments were as a city council member and mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, population 5,469. She resigned, quit, her governorship of Alaska due to pressure for legal challenges and alleged ethics violations of which she called “frivolous.”

re: #85 Thanos

Naive?

No. She is politically amoral and utterly Machiavellian.
Read the accounts of what she did to a personal friend of hers when she decided she wanted his job as mayor.

“John Stein, the mayor at the time, had helped Palin get into politics a few years earlier. He had no idea that he was about to become the first casualty of her ambitions. He doesn’t begrudge her running against him — he had been in office for nine years — but he says she changed the stakes when she sought outside endorsements and injected hot-button politics into a small-town race. “It was always a nonpartisan job,” he says. “But with her, the state GOP came in and started affecting the race.”

She accused him of shacking up with his wife and that the marriage was fake since Stein’s wife had not changed her last name.

* Former Wasilla Mayor John Stein says he mentored Palin during her 1994 run for City Council. Then she decided to challenge him and run for Mayor. “Things got very ugly,’ Naomi Tigner, a friend of the Steins, told Salon.com. “Sarah became very mean-spirited.” Palin allies suggested she would he “Wasilla’s first Christian mayor,” even though Stein is Protestant. Palin allies also whispered that Stein and his wife – who hadn’t taken his name – were not legally wed. “We actually had to produce our marriage certificate,’ Stein said. His wife died in 2005 without ever reconciling with Palin. “I had a hand in creating Sarah, but in the end she blew me out of the water,” Stein told Salon. “Sarah’s on a mission, she’s an opportunist.”

Carney told Salon that Palin – without council authorization — spent more than $50,000 in city funds to redecorate her office. “I braced her about it,” he said. “I told her it was against the law to make such a large expenditure without the council taking a vote. She said, ‘I’m the mayor, I can do whatever I want until the courts tell me I can’t.”

There’s more…much of the state GOP hated her guts. She is many things but naive isn’t one of them.

Hey, Technorati says LGF is worth $1,447,480.56.

Anybody interesting in buying? I’ll give you 10% off.

Is the grief extra?

I’m having a hard time posting from Opera here. I tried several times with the last message but kept getting the “duplicate comment” box, except for twice when hitting “post this message” took me to the Amazon Kindle page. I finally opened Internet Exploder, closed and re-opened it so the stupid (and entirely unresponsive) Active X warning would go away, then logged onto LGF again to finally post.

I would like to address an issue that came up late last Saturday afternoon. A number of lizards were offended and angered by what they saw as my laughter at and seeming agreement with what another lizard said. I refer to a now banned lizard who wrote with a humorous, heavy Russian accent. I came into a thread without knowing what had preceded and I laughed at the way this lizard said things and didn’t even notice what he was talking about. I laughed and shut down my computer to have dinner and enjoy the evening.

On the next day I was unable to log in and discovered my account had been blocked. I looked back to see that had happened and discovered that I had been accused of agreeing and laughing about the idea of shooting other lizards. This just isn’t true. I laughed at the way he said things. I’m sorry that people believed I would agree to anything like that and want everyone to know I never would do that. I regret any troll-like comments I have made. Please accept my apology.

I think so as we see the increasing anti-intellectualism on all fronts including the proverbial “dumbing down of America.” Although in Palin’s case I don’t know who would be foolish enough to invest in the “remaking” of Sarah Palin which is what it would take. Especially after quitting for what she called frivolous ethics charges. It’s almost like show business with her case.

Time for another Dredge report.

Is the Fever Swamp going peacenik? Not exactly but we are seeing far more defeatist and anti-war comments at places like Free Republic, as on this thread about the deaths of eight US soldiers in a battle in Afghanistan:

4. time to bring them home…
5. Get them out of there…

This is still a small minority at Free Republic but they represent a significant shift from what prevailed in these outlets during the Bush administration. I think it also reflects the growing influence of Paulian isolationism.

It’s a different form of link. The spinoffs links on each post.

If you find links that are of interest, it’s a good idea to pop them in the spinoffs too. They can be related to the post content or not. Lots of people who read LGF never look at the comment threads, but do look at the spinoff links.

re: #170 Thanos

Right now the Conservative bloggers are waiting for a trigger to unload. If Obama and Biden ignore McChrystal I think you will see a lot of flips using that as an excuse. Some are already trying to make ROE the excuse to flip “pro troop but anti-war”.

Agreed. There’s already been mutterings along those lines. Someone recently wrote a column that was suddenly opposed to the war in afghanistan– after years of cheerleading all moves the Bush admin made. I can’t remember who at the moment but it was someone prominent.

Oh, I see! Thanks!

There aren’t any standards though? I mean, is it appropriate to post youtube music there on open or lounge threads but not on serious news for example?

If you look at the spinoff links, there are categories to list your link in, including humour and video. I would probably post music links in a thread rather than there, though.

You can post a link on any topic in the spinoffs regardless of the post topic. One of the categories is “related to post topic” too.

re: #133 debutaunt

Given that this was not by any means an isolated incident, but the latest in a series of such in which you displayed troll like behaviour towards myself and others you disagreed with, I’d be lying if I said I found your explanation remotely convincing. But in the interests of civility, and hopefully more constructive discussion in future, I am willing to let the matter drop and have a clean slate going forward. So long as the future behaviour isn’t like the past, there’s no quarrel from me.

re: #183 Cathypop

WTF is up with Zombie?

I don’t think anything is up with Zombie. Zombie has always had a specific agenda, and personal set of projects. I think those met with a lot of approval at LGF, since Zombie’s work confirmed a lot of things that LGFers believed, and provided information on things LGFers were interested in.

These days, the focus of the blog is less on left-wing lunacy, and there is a more vocal group of people with a strong knowledge of some of the areas Zomb covers, some of whom don’t agree with his/her take on things.

It’s possible we just aren’t a particularly good forum for Zombie’s work any longer, or that Zombie’s taking a rest from LGF, or that what we’re discussing these days isn’t particularly interesting to him/her.

I don’t know what’s going on at Zombietime, I haven’t been for a bit.

I’m trying not to make this personal, since I have been both a big fan of Zombie’s hilarious coverage of local demonstrations, and troubled by some of his/her other work. Zombie doesn’t owe me anything, and I certainly don’t want to make LGF a less welcoming place for him/her. But if we’re not where teh wants to be right now…so be it.

I will say that my own personal experience of LGF’s changes has been that I feel I can breathe, and speak more openly, and that the conservative voices here will engage me in debate, rather than sneering and screaming. So I like it. But Zomb was kind of a superstar here with the older crowd, and it may be less interesting to submit work to a more critical and less politically compatible crowd.

I should stop now, because I’m trying to be really politically neutral here, and I’ll probably slip up any moment if I haven’t already.

You are not the first to say that, although you are more colorful.

As I said somewhere earlier about others, you are being a literalist. I think Condell was just sticking it to religion in general and being sarcastic about the added value it gives to certain real estate, which is otherwise supposed to irrelevant to the same principles of the religions.

To interpret; if idols are not to be worshiped, what’s the difference between a little one and a city sized one?

Now, the politics part of it, you and I would probably agree on.

As I’ve said before, I don’t travel a lot in these circles and I rely on others I think I can count on for the legwork, but it seems that there has been a pattern in this stuff lately.

Based on my own little analysis, it does not seem to be so much a matter of disagreement on fundamentals, although tunnel vision might play a role, as on the difference between having a blog based on personal principles versus one based on populism.

Needless to say the self immolations we see from random trolls are just that, but those from otherwise apparently sane and talented bloggers (not that I follow them at home) suggests that their motives are self serving.

Nothing wrong with that in principle, but what were they doing here all this time other than hitch hiking on the traffic if they eventually just give in to the shouting that they allow at home?

So LGF’s focus on teh crazee from the right is not welcome. Hence the laborious recent attempts to show that no matter how insane the right has become, the left has something even worse to offer.

Congratulations. You’ve gone from “interesting newbie” to “automatic scrollover” in seven days. For me, that’s a record.

The less I say, the more you invent. Will I be calling for the beheading of all believers soon?

You seem to have missed the threads where I ask people about their religion and what it entails.. a very positive experience for me, as the people responding have been very enlightening and courteous.
I’d like to think I try to make it clear what I do think, and when I don’t understand a concept I often invite people to try to explain it to me.

How you can warp this into me having an attitude of not wanting to learn, I don’t know.

I think you’ve been unnecessarily abrasive, and insisted upon that attitude even when I’ve specifically clarified my intent. Would you mind telling me why?

Right. The fabricated ‘scoop’ where she claimed a paper endorsed the Yoo protest (it didn’t. Someone took out an ad in it) and she lied and claimed that the paper published Yoo’s address. (it didn’t. The person with the ad asked people who were interested to contact her via facebook or some such.) All in an attempt to lie and say ‘the left’ was crazy. Because 6 lunatics (by her own count!) responded to a personal ad in the free Berkeley paper.

Why am I not surprised to find out she lied about someone else taking the photos as well?

I’m not sure it’s the anonymity.

It’s people going thru life thinking relationships are disposable.
And having a character flaw that thinks it’s perfectly OK to do harm or hurt to others, when no harm has been done to them.

It’s not necessary to be blindly loyal; but when paths diverge, it is wrong to plan and concoct actions that will do harm to the other person. Just wrong.

I may delete all my posts linking to zombie. What a back-stabbing little creep.

I think I wouldn’t delete the posts– but I would disable the links to avoid sending zombie traffic. Here is why:

People on the right and left who are hostile to LGF will claim that you have deleted the posts in an effort to cover or whitewash your association with her. They will produce screenshots to ‘prove’ this. People who think zombie is a nut (and there are many on the left who think this) and who only think of LGF as ‘that place that made zombie famous, and had comments by that guy Iron Fist’ will be all too ready to believe that it’s an attempt at covering something up.

It’s true that hostile people will be hostile no matter what, and will manufacture lies no matter what. This is my gut reaction though. Haven’t thought about it much yet myself, i must admit.

My two cents for what they’re worth.

I’m no fan of zombie’s by any means and I think she’s done harm to LGF in the past. The only criticisms I have seen about LGF in the last two years or so coming from the left all involved zombie– not LGF proper.

zombie 10/23/2007 8:07:50 pm PDT

Here’s the report on the Nonie Darwish event at Berkeley, part of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week:

Nonie Darwish at Berkeley

Several interesting aspects:

1. It’s a new form of online journalism — a collaborative group effort by seven photographers unknown to each other!

2. I managed to trace the disruptive protests back to a noxious communist group.

3. The video near the end is highly entertaining.

From the intro:

Note: This report is an experiment in collaborative online journalism. The photos on this page were taken by seven different photographers, each working independently and unknown to one another, who submitted their pictures, videos and accounts to a central editor, where they were compiled into a single report. The online nicknames of the seven “citizen journalists” are: bbuck, Chicken Kiev, Dan K., Luvpotion v.9.0, Marwan’s Daughter, neocon hippie, and Temmy. The central editor who created this report — and who did not actually attend the event itself — was me, zombie, the proprietor of this site. I edited the images and videos, and wrote the captions and introduction; the citizen journalists took the photos and videos, and provided first-hand observations and notes, which are the basis of this report.

A total misreading of science, and one that pandered in a most hysterical fashion to the crazies infesting the nu-right. And then they gobbled it right up of course. We told her this and got shit for it, needless to say, from people who seemed to regard her as some sort of living saint.

After that people like yourself started to point out other ‘oddities’ – shall we say – in her worldview, not to mention serious questions over her honesty. This business with the sock puppet extends that freakiness further. Very, very creepy.

re: #306 Jimmah

The Holdren posts were what really alerted me to the fact that something was wrong with this person.

The Holdren posts were a real problem for me too. In fact, I made it clear in the post I wrote about it that I wasn’t really signing on for the full course.

re: #295 cenotaphium

It’s beyond creepy when the sockpuppets start talking to “each other”.

Being new here, I have to ask; is this craziness (flouncing, backstabbing, stalker blogs) new, or an ongoing issue?

Right now, things are extreme because of the tsunami of hate coming from Charles’ former ‘friends’ in the blogopshere– the people who mistakenly assumed that he hated the left, rather than hating idiocy wherever it occurs. They assumed he signed on to their agenda. There’s been quite the upheaval in the right-wing blogosphere this summer as a result, and so there have been massive attacks on LGF, on Charles, because of it.

At the same time, lots of former LGF haters on the left have been noticing that LGF is the one place on the centre-right willing to call out the crazy. Dave Weigel at the Washington Independent did a great piece in April on the split over VB. The Daily Beast did a good piece on how Beck was polarising the righty-sphere and Charles is one of the only people calling him out.

So there is a seachange underway and all this talk of sockpuppets, flouncings, etc is the result.

Hopefully in future all discussion of the flouncings, stalker sites, etc, will come to be confined to the private threads, because it’s incomprehensible and boring to new readers– and as Charles pointed out, we’re getting tens of thousands of them now, from all over the political spectrum.

I finally rethought the Holdren event after reviewing what Dr. Emanuel went through for his ethics writings. That and thinking about what I wrote when I was about 23 years old.

I’m stuck with a comment a blog critic to Zombie’s Hodren article. At first I was critical of this blog critic until I realized I had been wrong:

Just because you study the devil doesn’t mean you worship him.

There certainly has. And that’s no surprise. They loved what zombie peddled.

I realise that this sucks, most of all for Charles, who supported her and gave her all this help, and also for the lizards here who liked her– but the truth is, this is a very good thing for LGF.

She/he was a self-aggrandising faux ‘journalist’ who pushed a so-con agenda at every opportunity. Not because she herself endorsed it, I don’t necessarily think, but because it would bring traffic.

More zombie lies here, btw.

Yep – I seem to remember zombie did not even attempt a response to you on that one.

Yes, I had a real problem with the claim that zombie saw Van Jones at Truther events. If I tried to float such a flimsy story, without ANY evidence for it, people would have jumped down my back instantly.

I might be just imagining this, but I could have sworn that zombie told people CK was his/her sockpuppet. I could not find it a search though. Perhaps my LGF-search-fu is weak. Either way, when I saw this thread the first thing that came to mind was the sockpuppet was completely unsurprising to me.

When you first mentioned that in your #287 above it did sort of ring a bell with me. Now I’m wondering if maybe it is just some subconscious association kicking around in my mind from seeing some Zombie comments mentioning Chicken Kiev and vice-versa.

Yep – I seem to remember zombie did not even attempt a response to you on that one.

She ran off. She first started to get angry, I think, when Charles wouldn’t sign onto her ridiculous Holdren crap. He made it clear he had reservations when he posted about it. And he posted the link to the Chris Mooney takedown later, IIRC.

Then she showed up with a new ‘expose’– that the Secret Service didn’t investigate threats against Bush as much as they did Obama, because ‘the media didn’t report them as much’. Yes, that was her ridiculous argument– as if the USSS gets its tips from the media. There’s so much wrong with that I can’t even go into it again, but a search of my comments here will bring up what i said then.

Charles wouldn’t sign onto that claim at all– and that’s when IMO she REALLY started to get mad.

The whole time I’ve been here she used LGF as a place to pimp whatever ridiculous story she was posting at the time and to plead for more traffic. “I think my site is overwhelmed with traffic, could you all go look and tell me if it’s working?” — Yeah. Because getting even more hits on an overwhelmed site is the way to tell if it’s ‘working’.

Zero respect for zombie here. None.

Yes. You even made the point on that thread or elsewhere that if you’d claimed you’d seen someone at a rally but couldn’t give out the information, people would have gone crazy ripping on you. And they would have.

It was bullshit. The most charitable interpretation of it (which i did give somewhere in that thread) is that Zombie was so biased she’d call something a truther rally when it was merely an antiwar rally.

But then I look at the comment i linked, where she slunk back days after being challenged –to claim that Van Jones resigned because of her sooper seekrit info she’d leaked to the MSM.

That’s a clear attempt to get credit, aggrandise herself, and essentially bullshit people. And use LGF to get traffic.

I have tremendous sympathy for you, and for the people here who trusted her, but I have none for her. This is a very good thing for LGF even if it feels bad now.

Very much agreed, iceweasel. And again, zombies disingeniousness comes out here. We criticized her “Bush Death Threats” post when she floated it on LGF, to the extent of telling her it was just a terrible idea intended only to deflect attention away from more accurate and relevant criticism of the madness on the right today, only to find ourselves “credited” – if that is the right word – on her blog with ‘helping’ her to put the post together. Not good.

Yes, but the big picture here isn’t the stalkers and weirdos– it’s all the new readers. And they can’t read private threads til they register.

We have many, many more readers than we have registered readers, and only a small fraction of the registered regularly comment.

Flame wars, talk of stalker blogs, all this inside baseball blogwar stuff– needs to be kept on the locked threads whenever possible, to increase readership here. It’s shooting up as it is and will continue to do so, and they don’t care about this stuff.

Absolutely. Like deciding the number one issue now isn’t that Obama’s death threats quadrupled, but that they’re selling Che T-shirts and some lefties carried some mean signs a few years ago.

Heh. Irrelevant.

We interrupt this program to bring you the following special report.

Our investigative news team has uncovered a Che t-shirt being sold at a Berkeley clothing store.

re: #310 iceweasel

It was the articles in the Daily Beast and then The Washington Independent that brought me here in the first place. As a person who has views that transcend the left/right divide, I was very pleased to see a blog out there (here) that was willing to call out the crazies for being the nutjobs they are. It has been an eye opener for sure. Charles has, in one sense, pried open something that otherwise would have been left smoldering under wraps were it not for his outing of the fascistas and their fellow travelers. As many like to say teh crazee is bad. But it’s no laughing matter. We’re seeing before our eyes the mainstreaming of extremism in ways that does have historical precedent. That scares the shit out of me. And it needs to be battled with all of our might. Charles is fighting that battle and should be commended for it. And with that, my stupid headached (going on two days now) head is hitting the pillow!

Must be running out of material in the Bay Area. I lived in San Francisco for almost 4 years and most of what Z blogs is rather common. Berkeley would have a protest of any size almost every week and it would result in property damage such as broken storefront windows.

That is the crux of it all. If we are to be anti-idiotarians, skeptics, we can’t make exceptions. I’ve been subjected to criticism and so should anyone else and that could have included Z. There are no sacred cows. She could have stuck around. It was her choice to make that long distance flounce and it turns out she had sock puppets.

There are a lot more comments from zombie praising ‘Chicken Kiev’ that I didn’t post. She seemed quite fond of herself.

The problem is that this sort of astroturfing completely discredits zombie’s work. Multiple sources are named, giving projects an air of peer review and independent contributions that is now revealed to be false in at least one case. One is left wondering whether any of the other contributors listed actually exist, or are merely props being used to create an impression of consensus within a “group” that doesn’t actually exist.

Collaboration, in fact, does not seem to be one of zombie’s strong points. His/er recent posts here, previewing a couple of articles before their wide release on the blog, were done asking for critical review prior to publication. This is a commendable action, but when readers offered actual criticism of any sort it was met with scorn and derision from someone obviously too vested in their own product to accept that it might stand improvement. I didn’t think too much of this at the time, other than to note the odd, overly possessive and thin-skinned reaction to even the mildest critiques, but it is beginning to make a bit more sense in light of these revelations.

Too bad. Although between that and zombie’s incessant blog flogging while here, I can’t say it’s a presence I’ll miss much.

Well said. Quoted because it’s all true and needs to be stressed.

Zed even ‘hattipped’ Jimmah and myself on a post– although she’d taken zero notice of our criticisms (except to freak out here when we offered them, at her request) and never responded to them in any substantive way.

She later used the fact that she’d ‘hat-tipped’ us as ‘proof’ that she wanted criticism and was listening to it. Not true at all. It was a scam designed to lend herself credibility. And she made a point of mentioning here, in comments, that she’d hat-tipped us– as ‘proof’ that she wanted criticism and could withstand it.

All lies. She wanted traffic and attention, and would have wet herself in delight if I or Jimmah cared enough to go to her blog to refute her (AGAIN)– which is precisely why we did not.

There is just one wee problem with the way this went down.

First we get this:

re: #176 Irish Rose

I went over to Zombies’ blog this morning to leave a comment about all of the posts there bashing Charles and LGF. I told her I was disappointed in her and I reminded her that Charles has been a good friend to her.

She removed my post, and left the hate posts up.

Seriously Zombie, if you’re reading this… wtf?

Then this:

re: #179 Sharmuta

your comment wasn’t removed.

I checked too, Sharmuta. It wasn’t, and it isn’t.

Over at Zombie’s blog, someone had this to say:

Irish Rose is toast.

She just lied through her teeth in order to get zombie banned at LGF.

Here’s what she wrote at comment #176 of today’s “private thread” on LGF:

176 Irish Rose Sun, Oct 4, 2009 4:59:05pm [etc.]

The problem, Ms. Rose, is that your LGF comment can easily proven to be a lie. All one needs to go is come to this thread and look at comment #125 above.

Your comment is still there!!!

How, m’lady, are you going to explain that? And how can you explain away your blantant backstabbing lie to Charles at LGF?

This is beyond the pale. In the old days of LGF, what you just did was itself a banworthy offense. Instead of zombie being banned from LGF, it is you who should be banned.

Your credibility rating just dropped to zero. Permanently.

Indeed.

What need of the lie, Rose? The comments there were certainly bad enough, why come and tell us you were deleted when you weren’t? You know these private threads aren’t private.

Unless Zombie deleted you, then reposted your comment, just to make you look bad. Trouble is, that can’t be, because your post is time-stamped at 8:00 A.M., and people were responding to it continually throughout the day.

Whatever. Personally, I find your persona as LGF’s resident watchdog has worn out. You just handed “them” a victory. “They” can crow about your tactics now. And they will. I don’t waste my time with Rodan and friends, but I guarantee you they’re flapping their gums about it this very second.

I told you before that your self-appointed role as keeper of the flame and challenger of the flaming insane was doing more harm than good.

The break between LGF and Zombietime was coming, but you had to lie to speed it up?

As if there weren’t enough shit bubbling to the surface all over the place without you stirring it for us.

re: #400 Cato the Elder

Cato– you know I love you, but I think Rose made an honest mistake when she thought her comment was deleted. She even answered Sharmuta and admitted as much.

Also, Rose’s comment isn’t the reason for the way things went down– not by a long shot. Zombie ultimately got blocked because Charles busted her spying in on this thread and copying comments using a sockpuppet of hers. Zombie had previously used that sockpuppet to pimp her own work, as Sharm showed above. I’m fairly certain she used that sockpuppet to downding me several times as well.

And as you say, this was in the works for months– because of zombie’s own behaviour — and her card was marked from the minute she decided to leave up nasty comments about LGF and Charles on her site. She’d obviously seen them.

The only way Irish Rose’s comment could be at all causally connected to ‘the way things went down’ is that it MIGHT be the proximate cause of Zombie sneaking over here to look at this particular private thread yesterday, and so her being busted yesterday– but it clearly would have happened anyway because Zombie would have been caught doing that sooner or later.

love,
iDub

There is obviously going to be a shitstorm on the right and gn stalker blogs about this. Someone joked upthread about zombie doing an ‘expose’ on LGF as well and I wouldn’t be surprised if she did.

Also, many bewildered lizards are going to be asking in good faith “What happened to our beloved zombie?”

Charles has already said he doesn’t want this discussed on public threads. Maybe we should all have a sort of informal policy, when the topic comes up on LGF, of saying “Yeah, Zombie’s gone, it was discussed here” and pointing people to the thread? And then refusing to discuss it further (publicly for sure)?

Does this make sense to people? I’m thinking about LGF and the future, and how talking about this is deadly boring to all the new readers, and also the way rumours spread. Thoughts?

I think folks who know Zombie and her past relationship here already realize that this was coming down the pike, mostly from her marked absence from posting so no explanation is really needed.

For the rest and to avoid further crappy drama over it, I think it suffices to say, “Zombie’s gone” and that’s it. It’s pretty easy to search out the drama on your own.

LGF owes nothing whatsoever to this person, not by the way of explanation, nothing. For goodness sake, I remember OMG so clearly that Charles paid for her way to the Dem Convention!

She couldn’t have taken the high road. She couldn’t have simply said, “I disagree with LGF now, but I won’t tolerate badmouthing him.” What a fucking user, my gawd. (sorry I had to get that out).

Okay, finally finished reading through this (between tasks at work) after seeing a reference on the overnight open. Disheartening, but not surprising. It is sad to see. But I have to agree that this is, ultimately, good for LGF. Painful, but essential to the “health” of this blog. Just wanted to chime in to express my regrets to Charles for this betrayal and my wishes that the increased interest from anit-idiotarians of across the political spectrum will continue to grow.

Now back to lurking before IT slaps my wrist for posting on blogs on company time/equipment.

re: #398 SixDegrees

When I saw Charles’ comment about the sock, I was shocked. After that, I wondered how often she interacted with herself, and I certainly had no idea she’d used her sock in her work. I did think it needed to pointed out, once I found it, because it raises some serious questions, imo, about the integrity of her work.

re: #409 marjoriemoon

She couldn’t have taken the high road. She couldn’t have simply said, “I disagree with LGF now, but I won’t tolerate badmouthing him.” What a fucking user, my gawd. (sorry I had to get that out).

I’m just an observer here, but a longtime blogger and reader elsewhere in the political blogosphere, so—

She should have immediately said after the first negative comment : “i won’t tolerate anyone bashing LGF or CJ in my comments, and any further discussion on this will be deleted.”
Bottom line. That’s MINIMAL decency—and notice it doesn’t even require her to defend anyone or declare her own position!

And any problems she had with Charles ought to have been brought to him privately, because of the long working relationship they’d had and all he’d done for her.
Again, that is only minimal decency. This is how normal people in the rest of the sane blogopshere handle such things.

IMO Zombie basically had a spite-fuelled rage when Charles wouldn’t sign onto her Holdren stuff wholesale (although he was still kind enough to make it a post), and she went completely mental when he didn’t post her bullshit about Obama death threats at all. She did all this to herself out of total spite because she wasn’t getting those sweet tasty LGF hits any more on her new ‘reports’ (for good reason, as they were on such cutting edge topics as the availability of Che Tshirts in a nameless boutique in Berkeley).

Plus the various freaks and stalkers have been cheering her on for some time and urging her to post on their blogs and denounce LGF.

So yeah, “fucking user” is exactly right in my opinion.

hi, IW – yes, I was looking for you a few weekends ago – could you e-mail me? My nic is blue in this response. It may take a bit for me to get back with you, but I’ll write before day’s end. Looking for someone to write book reviews from a political POV and you were one of the folks that first popped into my mind. If you’re interested at all, let me know. Thanks for asking!

I’m fairly new here, so I don’t know if you all care to hear my take on things, but blogs are about talking. And people like to talk about talking, and who is and is not talking to whom.

One aspect of political or religious extremism is that it demands ideological conformity. Take as an example the friction that will develop between a Christian churchgoer of a mainstream Protestant denomination and a charismatic pentecostalist or Latter Rain Christian. They’ll agree on general theology, but tension will develop because the mainstream positions do not agree in all particulars with the charismatic positions. To the charismatic the mainstream person has some serious things wrong and is in peril. Mainstream responses and criticism of the charismatic position will be met with hostility. For political and religious extremism, criticism of the group is almost the same thing as betrayal and siding with the enemy.

The same thing is going on here. The far right was happy with LGF so long as it pointing out foibles of the left. To the extremist, it is like making a convert. Converts are important not only because they are familiar with opposition arguments, but because they are valuable trophies. This is why among religious fringe you see “cured homosexuals” and “former atheists” placed on pedestals, almost on exhibit. I think for some time, the far right was thinking Charles was a convert. When it turned out not to be so, the result is the strong backlash we’re witnessing now.

No- she was logged onto THIS thread, here- the one you’re reading now. With her sock puppet. The same sock puppet she used to mask herself in her own work. She knew damned good and well what was going on on her own site.

Besides- people from other back stabbing sites have been in touch with her. There has been a campaign behind the scenes to get zombie to leave LGF. They should all be happy now they worked so hard for someone of such impeccable character as to lie in her work.

The very fact that zombie has not even been on this thread for five days,

The very fact that you say this proves you haven’t read this thread or the reasons why she was banned. Biased much?

re: #420 redneckkahfir

I am only trying to be biased in favor of fairness.

Is it not possible that this is a misunderstanding?

If you cared about fairness, you’d read the thread and see why she was actually banned. And it isn’t for the reasons you’re being told on her blog or elsewhere.

And if you read the thread, you’d see that there is no misunderstanding here at all. Except your own.

Sorry if this comes off harsh, but dude, please– read the thread! This issue starts at 251.

if you really care about ‘fairness’, you’ll make sure you know the real reasons why she was banned before venturing an opinion about whether the banning was ‘fair’ or not.
