Car bomb exploded on Friday near a cafe in Russia’s volatile North Caucasus region of Dagestan, killing four people and seriously wounding five, investigators said.
A Lada car exploded near a cafe on the outskirts of the town of Khasavyurt in Dagestan on Friday evening, Moscow-based investigators said, indicating the car had been stuffed with explosives.

“According to preliminary information, as a result of the blast two cafe workers and two visitors died, five people were hospitalised in a serious condition,” investigators said in a statement, without providing further details.
It was not immediately clear how the car bomb was triggered and who was responsible.
A regional police spokesman said earlier that two people were killed and five seriously wounded, saying three were believed to be in intensive care.
Russia is battling an Islamist insurgency in the Caucasus and deadly attacks on government and police officials in Dagestan as well as neighbouring Chechnya and Ingushetia are an almost daily occurrence. Suicide bombings are also becoming increasingly frequent in the Caucasus.
The day before one traffic policeman was killed and another wounded in Makhachkala, another town in the region of Dagestan.
