Blatantly Anti-Semitic Exchange on C-Span

by Nissan Ratzlav-Katz

A caller on a C-Span interview program Monday complained about “all these Jews” having “way too much power” in America and pushing the U.S. into wars with the Muslim world. He found his comments echoed and expanded upon by the studio guest.

Michael Scheuer, the former director of a CIA unit assigned to track down Osama Bin-Laden, calmly expressed the view that American soldiers are now dying in Iraq for the sake of Israelis. He further claimed that any debate of American support for Israel is squelched in the public sphere.

The interviewer for C-Span’s Washington Journal program did not react to the blatantly anti-Semitic exchange. Several other callers praised Scheuer for his position regarding Israel, adding their own condemnation of the Jewish State and its supporters.

An excerpt of the initial discussion follows:

John (on the phone from Franklin, New York): “Good morning. I, for one, am sick and tired of all these Jews coming on C-Span and other stations and pushing us to go to war against our Muslim friends. They’re willing to spend the last drop of American blood and treasure to get their way in the world. They have way too much power in this country. People like Wolfowitz and Feith and the other neo-cons – that Jewed us into Iraq – and now we’re going to spend the next 60 years rehabilitating our soldiers. I’m sick and tired of it.”

C-SPAN host (to Scheuer): “Any comments?”

Scheuer: “Yeah. I think that of course American foreign policy is eventually up to the American people. One of the big things we have not been able to discuss for the past 30 years is our policy towards the Israelis. Whether we want to be involved in fighting Israel’s wars in the future is something that Americans should be able to talk about. They may vote yes. They may want to see their kids killed in Iraq or Yemen or somewhere else to protect Israel. But the question is: we need to talk about it. Ultimately, Israel is a country that is of no particular worth to the United States.”

Either Scheuer is a regular poster at Liberty Forests, or those guys are parroting Scheuer (more likely but one never knows).

During my 6 months at Liberty Forest, I would on occasion check the stats on some of the most active antisemites and jihadi activists. Many of them posted so many times per day I wondered how they held down a decent job. It seemed to me they had to either be unemployed somewhere out in Idaho or Wyoming somewhere, sitting in a ratty mobile home complete with no running water, eating Campbell’s soup out of the can and wondering if they can afford to drive to the local gym to take a shower this month or not — or– perhaps they were getting paid to spread their disinformation.

Excerpts from his piece at Anti-War.Com

Turning the Tables on the Israel-Firsters

by Michael Scheuer

“The idea that there are U.S. citizens who have equal loyalties to the United States and Israel is passé. American Israel-firsters have long since dropped any pretense of loyalty to the United States and its genuine national interests.”

“… thousands of wealthy supporters of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) appear to care about the United States only so far as Washington is willing to provide immense, unending funding and the lives of young U.S. service personnel to protect Israel.

“… amount to nothing less than a fifth column…”

“The Israel-firsters started the Iraq war and now have the United States locked into an occupation of that country that may not end in any of our lifetimes.”

“The reality and power of this anti-American, pro-Israel triangle – Israel-first politicians, civil servants, and pundits; AIPAC’s corrupting influence; and the warmongering of major evangelical Protestant preachers – is so obvious and palpable that the only way its members can blur reality is to deny the triangle’s existence and identify their critics as anti-Semites.”

“The invocation of the anti-Semite epithet by the Israel-firsters should be ignored.”

“As long as the Israel-firsters can define the limits of acceptable public discourse, Americans are on their way to the slaughter.”

I found an interesting discussion and several excellent links at the following site, The Strata-Sphere (puttin’ this one on my blogroll today). The Strata-Sphere piece, entitled “Scheuer’s Shenanagins”, links to an article by Gabriel Schoenfeld, at The Weekly Standard.

Following are few juicy excerpts re Mr. Scheuer’s alleged expertise, which he is busy hawking these days:

The CIA Examines Itself: The results aren’t pretty.

by Gabriel Schoenfeld

“Who is to blame for the intelligence disaster of September 11?”

“One important figure is Michael Scheuer, who served as chief of the Osama bin Laden unit, or the “UBL Station” as it was called….”

“So high-profile has Scheuer become that even Osama bin Laden has been taking note. In his newly released video, the leader of al Qaeda singles Scheuer out as one of two writers–the other is Noam Chomsky–worth reading about world and Islamic affairs.”

“Given the brightening spotlight under which Scheuer has been dwelling, the question of how he fares in the OIG report is all the more interesting. “

“Although such skewed budgeting sheds no direct light on Scheuer’s performance, the scant attention paid to counterterrorism suggests that the UBL Station, a sub-unit of the counterterrorism department, was a bureaucratic backwater.”

“In 1986, Scheuer earned a Ph.D. from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. This school has earned an international reputation in the field of grain-storage technology, but it is not exactly known for its contribution to the study of foreign policy. In any event, given the wholly irrelevant nature of Scheuer’s doctoral research–his dissertation traced the comings and goings of an obscure Canadian diplomat in the years before World War II–assigning him to run the bin Laden section was of a piece with, indeed, can be taken as a symbol of, the entrenched neglect of Islamic terrorism within the agency.”

“… it is completely clear that while Scheuer was running the UBL Station, the unit was producing shoddy work.”

“In other words, in 1996, after Scheuer was assigned the job of countering Osama bin Laden, he never bothered with the first and most elementary task of intelligence tradecraft: assembling and evaluating the known facts about his principal target.”

“Significant questions have been raised in the past not only about Scheuer’s competence as a manager and an analyst, but also about his probity.”

“Scheuer testified at length before the 9/11 Commission. Serious doubts have emerged about the veracity of the information he provided. “

“Scheuer’s integrity is more radically called into question by his own false statements about his career, including his 2005 claim in the correspondence section of Commentary that he was awarded the CIA’s Intelligence Commendation Medal in part for “supply[ing] all of the information used in the federal indictment of Osama bin Laden.” Osama bin Laden was indicted in 1998. Scheuer was given his CIA medal in 1995, three years before the indictment and one year before he was assigned to the UBL Station.”

“On top of incompetence, such résumé embellishment does not form a pretty picture. As the prime plotter of September 11, Osama bin Laden would seem to have good reason to heap praise now on Michael Scheuer. “

Back to the debate at The Strata-Sphere:

“So Scheuer had time to do a detailed dissertation on some osbcure (sic) and unknown spy from before World War II but couldn’t find the time to develop a report on Bin Laden, even after the African Embassy bombings on the USS Cole? Basically no one should be listening to Scheuer on anything. He is out making money by plying his experience and role in the events leading up to 9-11. Talk about blood money.”

Ah, so Scheuer fits another profile point of the typical antisemite. He hides his own inadequacies by blaming the “Joos”. Predictably, he obfuscates by making half-hearted attempts at sounding evening handed via his criticism of Saudi Arabia, or even declaring his hope that Israel will flourish, in order to dodge accusations of antisemitism, (which he pretends not to care about in any case). Sheuer shocked the normally expressive Bill Maher into near wordlessness for several moments with his moral equivalence and indifference towards the suffering nations of this world, whether Israel or elsewhere,  struggling to survive in spite of tyrants, murderers, jihadis, tyrants etc.

Don’t worry. Maher recovered quickly.

I do understand that our founding fathers wanted this nation to avoid endless involvement in the problems of Europe and, by extension, the rest of the world. However, the question of what is to become of America should the entire world find itself swallowed up by  fascists is a worthwhile problem to ponder. Do we think, once their appetites were sated by gobbling up every other nation, they would suddenly gain some sense of retraint, and stop beyond our shores. Would G-d honor the indifference of a nation filled with Michael Scheuers??

With such men, Israel will always be the first complaint, action against the Jewish state will always be the first recommendation, the alleged crimes of the Jewish people will typically be the main subjects discussed in great detail. Money “wasted” on Israel will be the main example of fiscal malfeasance, rather than the money wasted on traitorous incompetence riddling the US government on all levels, both here and overseas, all of which puts our soldiers and our people at risk.

Seen it before. No wonder we haven’t caught Bin Laden yet. No wonder Bin Laden recommends we buy Scheuer’s book.

Moral equivalence between the actions of terrorists trying to destroy Israel and Israelis defending themselves is another red flag. The three D’s of an antisemite are easily observed:

Double Standards

Scheuer is a little more clever at this game than men such as Jimmy Carter. He’s quicker on his feet during an interview, but Scheuer does not try hard to hide his true feelings as demonstrated in his articles at AntiWar.Com.

Finally, Paul Sperry’s book,  Infiltration: How Muslim Spies and Subversives have Penetrated Washington should be considered as well. Sometimes enough investigating produces the sad evidence that men such as Scheuer are on the take. Maybe Sperry should consider investigating Michael Scheuer.

Following are more interesting links that might shed some light on who Michael Sheuer is. He is certainly not the patriot he claims to be:

Leaking At All Costs: What the CIA is willing to do to hurt the Bush administration. by John Hinderaker

“THE CIA’S WAR against the Bush administration is one of the great untold stories of the past three years. It is, perhaps, the agency’s most successful covert action of recent times. The CIA has used its budget to fund criticism of the administration by former Democratic officeholders. The agency allowed an employee, Michael Scheuer, to publish and promote a book containing classified information, as long as, in Scheuer’s words, “the book was being used to bash the president.”

Scheuer’s Faulty Memory by Steven Emerson

“Mr. Scheuer needs to brush up on his Islamic history a bit, and he should start by reading his own book.”

If you to read Mr.  Emerson’s entire post, you’ll get it. It’s short so go ahead and click the link.

Maybe the only claim to fame Mr. Scheuer really has is his cute, teddy bear looks and that adorable fuzzy-topped haircut of his.
