Leaders participating in the Arab Economic Summit issued a statement rejecting foreign interference on the issue of minority rights in the Arab World.
The summit opened Wednesday in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh resort.
Earlier this week, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit said Egypt planned to demand that the summit denounce external meddling in its domestic affairs.
The call was triggered by an appeal made by Pope Benedict XVI along with a number of Western states urging the protection of Christians in the Arab world following deadly attacks on churches in Iraq and Egypt.
The statement said that Arab leaders reject attempts by foreign powers to intervene in Arab domestic affairs.
It added that such attempts demonstrate an ignorance of the history of the region, and reflect a lack of understanding of the nature of terrorist attacks, which have not neglected any area of the world.
The disappearing Christian minority in every Arab nation is testimony to how well the Arabs are handling this issue on their own.

Predictably, it was met by “pacifist” protesters, associated with several anti-Zionist and ostensibly anti-racist groups, chanting such peaceable slogans as “EDL—go to Hell” and “Smash, Smash, Smash EDL”—and, yes, initiating pockets of violence requiring police intervention. The racial conflict jumps from big cities to small towns in Spain like Salt in Gerona, where 43% of approximately 28,000 residents are Muslim immigrants. Violent altercations with neighbors of North African origin have increased the police presence in the area.
Week of violent riots — (H/T Maria) -A young Moroccan man injured while fleeing the police lit the fuse on this occasion. 100 people protested by starting six container fires, burning 12 vehicles in a week of violence which included children and young men. The conflict could be reignited again on Saturday after demonstration by several social organizations.

Last night, free speech suffered a setback in Ottawa, Canada and tyranny notched a win. The Free Thinking Film Society had scheduled a screening of the new Clarion Fund film, “Iranium,” this evening at the Library and Archives of Canada in downtown Ottawa, the Canadian capital. The film is a documentary featuring a slate of Iran experts discussing the threat of the Iranian nuclear weapons program. Unfortunately, all it took was the reported telephone threat of protests from the local Iranian Consulate to call in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, evacuate the building, and cancel the event.
